C-124 GlobemasterDouglas C 124 Globemaster airplane model. The C 124 was an evolution of the Douglas C 74. With its "clamshell" loading doors and hydraulic ramps, and elevator under the rear fuselage, cargo handling became much easier. It could handle large, bulky items like tanks, field guns, bull dozers, and trucks. For troop transportation, it could accommodate 200 fully equipped soldiers in its double decked cabin, or 127 litter patients and their attendants.
